Install Fusion (JAWS/ZoomText)

Overview

To provide independent access to shared workstations in employee- and student-facing areas for individuals (students, faculty and staff) with visual disabilities.

Note: Before installing, please ensure the workstation is in a "thawed" state in DeepFreeze, or install the software before installing DeepFreeze.
 

1. Download and Install Fusion

  1. Download the latest version of Fusion® from Freedom Scientific Downloads.
  2.  ​Run the installer and follow the prompts.
  3. Fusion includes:
    A. JAWS (screen reader)
    B. ZoomText (magnification + visual enhancements)
  4. Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

    Important: In public spaces, uncheck the box for "Open JAWS at login screen".
     

2. Configure Network License Variables

  1. Open System Properties from the Control Panel under System and Security, or use the Windows Button context menu by right-clicking the Start menu (WindowsKey+x) and choose System.
  2. Choose Advanced System Settings to open the System Properties window.
  3. Activate the Advanced tab and open the Environment Variables dialog.
  4. In the System Variables section, click New and add:
    1. Name: LSHOST
    2. Value: IRTAPPS3
  5. Repeat to add:
    1. Name: LSFORCEHOST
    2. Value: IRTAPPS3

3. Set Shortcut Keys for Independent Access

  1. Open the Start Menu and type the name of the application until the shortcut is visible.​​​​​​
  2. Right-click the shortcut and choose View File Location.
  3. Right-click the shortcut and choose Properties.
  4. In the Properties window, set the Shortcut Key field:
    1. JAWS: Ctrl+Alt+j
    2. ZoomText: Ctrl+Alt+z
    3. Fusion: Ctrl+Alt+f

4. Configure Accessible Login Screen Features

  1. Ensure NUM LOCK is on by default.
  2. Enable Ease of Access option for the ACCeID login screen.
  3. Users with visual disabilities may need assistance initially.
