Blackboard Ultra: How to Batch Edit Student Visibility

This article outlines how to use the Batch Edit feature in Blackboard Ultra to update student visibility settings across multiple course items simultaneously.

Access Batch Edit

On the Course Content page, open the three dot menu on the right side above the content list. Select Batch Edit.

Focused UI Highlights:  The three-dot options menu (...) at the top right of the "Course Content" header is selected with a blue outline.  The top menu option, "Batch Edit", is highlighted with a blue focus rectangle inside the expanded drop-down menu.  Drop-Down Menu Options:  "Batch Edit" (highlighted)  "Import Content"  "Copy Items"  "Export Course Package"  "Course Tasks and Logs"  "Unused Files"  Page Context:  Active header displays the course title "Introduction to Technical Writing" with the "Content" tab active and a "Course Settings OPEN" status badge.  Main content panel lists items including the "Plain Language in Technical Communication" learning module and "Plain Language Test".  Right sidebar contains sections for "Course Faculty" (INSTRUCTOR) and "Course Assistants".

 

Edit visibility

You can use Batch Edit to make items hidden or visible to students. Select Edit visibility. Choose to make items hidden or visible to students. Previous visibility settings for the items are overwritten. Date and time release conditions are removed for all selected items.

Focused UI Highlight:  A purple outline highlights the "Edit visibility" button in the bottom-right action bar.  Bottom Action Bar & Status:  Selected Counter (Left): Displays "24 items selected (including any folder or learning module contents)".  Action Controls (Right): Displays three batch action buttons: "Edit dates", "Edit visibility" (highlighted), and "Delete items".  Table Content:  Lists weekly items from "Week 6" (checked checkbox) through "Week 15" (unchecked checkboxes).  Table columns display conditional availability lock icons, release date timestamps (e.g., 2/24/25, 5:00 AM), end dates (e.g., 3/2/25, 11:59 PM), and individual trash icons on the far right.

Modal Header: Title displays "Edit Visibility Setting" with a close (X) icon in the top-right corner.  Instructional Text: Reads "Choose whether to show or hide the selected items for students. All existing availability settings will be overwritten."  Selection Options:  Selected radio button option: "Hidden from students".  Unselected radio button option: "Visible to students".  Footer Action Buttons:  "Cancel" (secondary gray button).  "Save Visibility" (primary black action button).
