Unable to Get on ACC-Secure Wifi, Administrator Required, Solution (Windows 11)

Purpose:  Use this document if you are trying to renew your Wifi certificate to get back on the ACC-Secure Wifi network, and you are asked to enter administrator credentials to continue.

There are most likely multiple expired Wifi certificates on your computer that need to be deleted first.  Follow the steps below to remove these older certificates:

  1. Press the “Windows” key on your keyboard and type in certmgr.msc, then click to open it.
NOTE:  Do not use the Certificate Manager App suggested from the Windows auto-complete.  The incorrect app will not contain the wifi certificates that you need to delete.  Please type in certmgr.msc completely to get the correct Certificate Manager.

  2. In the right column, look for the certificates that start with:
    <Your eID>@ACCstaff.austincc.edu
If you find more than one of these types of certificates that start with the above, delete them all by right-clicking on each certificate and selecting “Delete” in the context menu.  Do not delete any of the other certificates in this column.

  3. Once the wifi certificates are deleted, you can close the certmgr window, and re-download another wifi certificate at wireless.austincc.edu
